Design, prototyping and testing of an automatic gauge changing installation for High Speed Trains.

This is the third generation of automatic gauge changer for high-speed trains.

The objective of this system is to reduce the width of the installation so it can be placed on narrow places at stations, etc.

Automatic gauge change

TRIA has patented the automatic gauge changers installed by the Railway Infrastructure Administrator in Spain (ADIF) to connect the high-speed network (1,435 mm gauge) with the conventional network (1,668 mm gauge).
TRIA has constructed 33 gauge changers at the borders between the 1,668 mm gauge network and the 1,435 mm gauge network.
Gauge changers are used daily by dozens of trains throughout the entire Spanish rail network.

The development of automatic gauge changers has allowed the benefits of high-speed rail to extend beyond the boundaries of pure high-speed lines, bringing high-speed services to the conventional network.
TRIA Ingeniería also develops tailor-made solutions for specific situations, such as the recent development of the IBERIAN-CAF gauge changer for RENFE at the Redondela workshop.

Under development

Asturias and Redondela gauge changers

The TCRS3 gauge changer in Campomanes, Asturias, is nearing inauguration. This gauge changer, located on the Asturian side of the Pajares Variante, will be used by high-speed trains operating on the UIC gauge that travel along the new line. These trains will enter the conventional network to complete the final segment of their journey to their destination.
The Campomanes gauge changer is a key component of the Pajares Variante, which will reduce travel time between Asturias and Madrid by 1 hour and 40 minutes.

TRIA Ingeniería is currently developing a new DUAL HORIZONTAL gauge changer for the Redondela BMI in Galicia. This gauge changer will allow the Redondela BMI to handle the entire inspection cycle for variable gauge trains operating on the Galician high-speed rail network.
